How much do composite veneers cost?

More and more people are turning to cosmetic dental treatment to fix dental imperfections that have been bothering them for years. And it’s no wonder since veneers are more accessible and affordable now than ever. They used to be a solution exclusive only to the rich and famous, but now there are more options, and one of those options is composite veneers.

What are composite veneers?

You’ve probably heard of veneers, but have you heard of composite veneers? They are fast becoming very popular, after porcelain veneers, for a budget-friendly way of achieving the teeth you’ve always dreamed of.

Veneers are one of the best cosmetic dental options available if you’re looking to perfect those imperfections on your teeth that have always bothered you. If your teeth are crooked, misaligned, chipped, gappy, or discoloured, veneers offer the solution to all these problems and more! Veneers are the go-to treatment for the perfectly straight smile you see on celebrities and film stars, except now, they’re more accessible than ever!

Composite veneers (otherwise known as composite bonding) are made out of a composite resin paste that is bonded to your teeth. It is a putty-like material which hardens to the same consistency as porcelain veneers. The colour of the resin matches the colour of your teeth for a more natural-looking finish.

Composite veneers are a minimally invasive type of tooth covering that sits on top of your teeth, helping to shape and colour your teeth into a more desirable appearance. Composite veneers are ideal for fixing small imperfections, as you don’t need to cover the entire tooth with resin.

Why choose composite veneers?

There are so many reasons why people are turning to veneers as a cosmetic dental option. They are a long-term solution to imperfect teeth, and the procedure itself often makes veneers permanent due to filling away part of the tooth, and this doesn’t grow back (this sometimes doesn’t need to happen for composite veneers).

You’ll be happy to know that veneers aren’t painful to get. You may experience a little bit of sensitivity after they’re fitted, and they may feel odd for a few days, but your dentist will make sure you’re as comfortable as possible when having the procedure.

How veneers are done depends on the type, and for composite veneers, the process is fairly simple and is faster than getting porcelain veneers, where a mould needs to be made, teeth need to be filed, and customer-made porcelain veneers are made. Composite veneers can usually be done in only one appointment.

The benefits of composite veneers:

  • The colour is matched to the colour of your own teeth, so they look natural.
  • Veneers can dramatically enhance the appearance of your teeth.
  • They will improve your confidence and provide you with a more appealing smile.
  • Veneers resist stains better than natural teeth.
  • They are low maintenance once fitted, and the usual dental hygiene principles apply.
  • The process is pain-free and fast.
  • Minimally invasive treatment.
  • They last around 5-8 years.

Getting composite veneers

The process goes like this:

  • The dentist will use a solution to make the surface of your teeth slightly rough, to give the resin something to adhere to.
  • The resin will be applied to your tooth layer by layer, and an intense light is used to cure and seal it.
  • Once the desired shape and colour have been achieved, your new tooth will be polished to give it a natural look.
  • This usually only takes one visit, so is a great time saver compared to porcelain veneers, which take more than one visit.

The cost of composite veneers

Due to the materials used and the efficiency of the treatment, composite veneers are very affordable compared to porcelain veneers. The composite bonding price is around £200 for the edge of a tooth and around £300 per full tooth. The price will vary depending on other factors, and if you opt for more treatment in your area.

Whereas the cost of porcelain veneers is around £650-£1000 per tooth, so a full set of veneers costs hundreds and sometimes thousands. The benefits of getting porcelain veneers far outweigh the cost as a permanent avenue to getting enviable teeth. As you can see, composite veneers are considerably cheaper than porcelain veneers, but they don’t last as long because they aren’t quite as strong.

Other dental treatments

At the Eye & Dental Clinic, we offer more than just veneers. You might need additional treatment before getting veneers, or maybe you want a different option than composite bonding/dental bonding.

Porcelain veneers

Some people choose to have porcelain veneers rather than composite veneers because they are more durable and last for many years if they’re looked after well enough and with regular dentist visits. Composite veneers, on the other hand, still provide a long-lasting solution to imperfect teeth but the resin material used isn’t as strong as porcelain, meaning it doesn’t last as long as could break and alter more easily.

The process takes a little longer and is more expensive. First, impressions will be made of your teeth, and mould will be created. Then, your porcelain veneers will be made and personalised for you. Your teeth will need to be filed to remove some of the enamel, and then your porcelain veneers can be placed on top.

Crowns and bridges

Getting veneers when you have missing teeth is possible, but you may need to have a bridge or crown fitted if the gap is too wide, as porcelain veneers are eggshell-thin caps that go over your natural teeth. If you have a complete gap where your tooth used to be, a porcelain or composite veneer cannot be placed there because veneers act as caps and are fitted onto existing teeth. Talk to your dentist about what your options are.

Gum disease

Gum disease occurs with poor dental hygiene. It makes your gums red and sore, and they’ll often bleed when brushing. If you’re considering getting veneers, you will need to be free of gum disease first. But don’t worry, it is usually an easy-to-fix problem, with good care and attention.

Make sure to brush your teeth twice a day, use floss, interdental brushes and mouthwash and visit a dental hygienist for a good clean.

So, how much do composite veneers cost? They’re very affordable at around £200-£300 per tooth. You may only need to get 1 tooth done, or you might want the full set, but for composite veneers, this will cost your hundreds, rather than thousands like porcelain veneers will, making them a great budget-friendly solution to getting perfect teeth.
